Rain showers in the morning had us convinced it was going to be a wet and sloppy ride but other than one muddy section it was suprisingly dry.
Our route went from Walker through Chippewa National Forest on Forest service roads and 4-wheeler trails. Then we crossed into Paul Bunyan State Forest on some old logging roads and more 4-wheeler trails. Then we followed the Steamboat forest road to the west edge of PBSF and on to Karamel forest road, Pine lake FR and Lake Alice trail up to the "town" of Lake Alice where we had a great pulled pork sandwich and a beer at Bad to the Bone BBQ. We filled our water bottles and headed out on TH 200 for the couple miles to Itasca S.P. There we rode the bike trail around the park then the snowmobile trail to the Anchor Matson road to the cabin.
Here is a link to our route in my Garmin activities Walker to Itasca
We headed back to Walker and met up with my brother Phil and went out Musky fishing for a couple hours. Phil caught a few small northern pike and we saw acouple of Muskies but didn't hook any.
Phil and I went back out Sunday morning before I headed back home and he caught this nice 27" Walleye on his Musky twitch bait.
We again caught a number of small northern pike and saw Muskies following our baits but no Muskies in the boat. Maybe next weekend!
